The last two days I have spent downloading, and installing OVI Maps onto my N95-2 running the latest firmware.
Firstly, Nokia Map Updater worked fine, and updated my maps application as it should, and I could download map data on the fly, however, seeing as I was travelling across Europe later this year, I used Nokia Map Loader (Latest build) to download, and transfer Europe Maps to my device, along with English Female voices.
This took several hours, and after leaving it to continue overnight, the following morning when I checked to progress, it had completed.
I went outside to give it a test, and it locked up my handset, rendering it useless. I had to remove the battery in order to use the phone again.
In experiencing the above, I thought maybe an application i had installed may of been causing the problem, so one, by one, I uninstalled each 3rd party application, and retested Ovi Maps, but sadly to no avail.
I then proceeded to format my mass memory, and reset my device, reinstall the latest firmware, and then start the whole procedure over again with a fresh device.
Again, this took some several hours to complete, and after leaving it to download, and install over night, this morning, I checked it again, and to my horror, it crashed my handset once again.
I am now, trying again for the third time, this time, trying to install just Nordic Countries, and a couple of European countries I will be visiting later this year.
So far this morning, after hard resetting my device, and formatting the mass memory, reinstalling pc suite support, I cannot get Nokia Maps Updater to find my phone, so I am not, about to reboot my laptop and try again.
I will post again in this thread to let you know how I get on, and hopefully this information i have given can help the maps team get this fixed before its final release, because afterall, this is still only a Beta, hence my posting here, hoping this info will help others.
2nd post
Ok, a quick update.
Completely started over, and this time round, just downloaded, and installed Finland maps.
Rebooted device, and launched maps, and it froze yet again!
I then used Nokia Map Loader to remove maps, then rebooted device again, and launched maps, only for it to freeze once again.
This has really got me stumped.
3rd Post, but first...
Thanks to twitter, and the following friends on there- @gerrymoth @RobertHall @FlintZA @yousquareface @aliguana, and finally, @alpavangkanan who all helped with my progress on this nightmare of an install.
Ok, finally the solution to all of the above issues with Ovi Maps..
Final update, and success.!
If anyone else has been experiencing the same issues as i have been above, follow the directions below, and you will be good to go..
Ensure your device has the required PC Suite support files, simply connect to your PC/Laptop via usb connectivity cable, and launch PC Suite. If your plugin's are out of date, you will be prompted to install them again, simply do this by clicking on "Help" in the PC Suite tool bar, and scroll down to "Reinstall PC Support files"
Once you have done the above, keeping your device attached to your pc, launch the latest version of Nokia Map Updater.
Once it reads your handset, it will find out if there are any updates for you. When updates found, hit the download button, and keep an eye on the status bar, then check your device, as you will need to complete installation on your phone.
Once you have updated the maps application, YOU MUST LAUNCH MAPS AND CONNECT TO A DATA NETWORK; NOT WIFI.
Once your data connection has connected, and checked licenses, wait for your device to obtain a sat lock. Once you have a satellite lock, you are then free to close maps.
Now maps is closed, connect your device back up to your PC/Laptop, and launch the latest version of Nokia Map Loader.
Once loaded, and phone read, select the maps you wish to download.
When you have selected the maps you wish to download, check the file sizes of download, to ensure you have the required amount of space.
After you have checked everything is fine with your storage medium, you can then hit "Download".
You can leave your PC/Laptop to download, and install maps on its own, as you do not need to touch the device at all.
When download, and installation is completed, you will be left with the MAP or Voice page as it were when you left it. See video below for ending process, as there is no confirmation pop up to let you know that the download, and installation to phone is completed.

Once you have done all the above, ensure your outside with a clear view of the sky, and then launch maps, and ensure you connect to a network for the first connection. Afterwards, you can connect via wifi, and not at all if you have downloaded the maps covering your geographical position.
I hope the above information comes in handy for you.
